Side and Manavgat: sights, beaches and day trips
Side combines a seaside ancient town with long beaches; nearby Manavgat adds a river, markets and access to the Taurus Mountains. Side is part of Manavgat district, so a holiday described as “Side” may actually be based in a resort several kilometres from the old town. Choose your accommodation first, then plan days that fit its location.
Explore ancient Side
Walk through the old town towards the harbour and the columns of the Temple of Apollo, especially attractive in the softer evening light. Side’s ancient port, Roman theatre and streets show how closely everyday life and archaeology meet here. The museum occupies a Roman bath building and displays finds including sculpture, sarcophagi and coins; check its visiting arrangements before travelling.
As checked in October 2026, the Ministry lists Side’s theatre as closed for restoration. Do not plan an interior visit or assume a performance is taking place there. Fire of Anatolia excursions go to Aspendos, not Side’s theatre; festival dates and venues need checking separately.

Waterfalls, lakes and mountain scenery
Manavgat Waterfall is broad rather than very high. A visit to its viewing area is different from a river cruise: a cruise usually follows the lower river, while a waterfall stop requires an additional land transfer. Read the itinerary rather than relying on an older tour name.
Green Canyon lies at the Oymapınar reservoir. Green Lake excursions use a different reservoir area, so a combined safari and lake cruise should not be assumed to visit both. In Köprülü Canyon, the Köprüçay offers rafting, while the Roman Oluk Bridge and ruins of Selge add a historical dimension. Tazı Canyon viewpoints, forest routes and highland outings involve more road travel than the coast.

For walks, consider the surroundings of Titreyengöl or the river mouth, respecting access restrictions and wildlife. Bird sightings and encounters with free-roaming horses are never guaranteed. Take litter away and avoid feeding animals; a motorised safari is not automatically an environmentally friendly activity.
Beaches and time on the water
West Beach has a busy resort atmosphere and easy access to cafés and water activities. East Beach, Sorgun and the Titreyengöl coast offer other stretches to explore, but tranquillity and facilities vary by section and season. Check flags, waves and the seabed before swimming; no beach is permanently safe for every child.
A boat excursion can be a quiet sunset outing, a private trip or a lively pirate-boat day. Compare the departure harbour, swimming stops, food, music and hotel transfer. “Dolphin Island” is a tour name, not a guarantee of seeing wild dolphins. Diving, riding and fishing have their own age, experience and health requirements.

Markets, food and everyday courtesy
Manavgat’s markets bring together produce, spices, clothes and souvenirs. Monday and Thursday are useful days to investigate, but confirm the market location and holiday changes locally. For a specifically confirmed option, the municipality describes the Toros women’s craft market beside the river at Cumhuriyet Square on those days.
Look for ceramics, a cotton peştemal or a nazar charm without assuming every branded item is genuine. Agree the currency and final price before paying. Bargaining may be welcome at souvenir stalls, but not at every shop. Carry smaller notes for modest purchases.
Try meze such as haydari, hummus, ezme and stuffed vine leaves, followed by grilled fish, köfte, şiş, mantı or kuru fasulye. Gözleme, simit and lahmacun suit a lighter meal; baklava or künefe go well with tea or Turkish coffee. Ask about ingredients and the fish on offer rather than assuming every restaurant serves the same catch.

A simple “merhaba” or “teşekkür ederim” is appreciated. Ask before photographing people. At mosques, follow posted visiting and clothing rules and remove shoes where required. Tips are discretionary, not a compulsory percentage.
Family activities and evenings out
Water parks and the Antalya Aquarium can provide a change from the beach. Check opening dates, height limits and what the ticket includes. Dolphin shows involve captive animals and are different from wildlife watching. A hamam visit is another option, with treatments and prices agreed in advance.

For an evening out, compare harbour cafés, live music and organised shows. The Land of Legends is near Belek; the Starcraft party excursion sails from Alanya with a transfer from Side. Neither should be mistaken for an event within walking distance of Side’s harbour.

Longer excursions: allow for the journey
Antalya’s Kaleiçi and harbour, Alanya’s castle and Red Tower, Aspendos and Perge offer very different days out. Antalya Museum is currently on the Ministry’s closure list, so do not build a city visit around entering it. Lyrbe, often called Seleukeia in older visitor material, is another archaeological excursion in the forested hinterland.
Demre, Myra and Kekova, Pamukkale and Salda Lake require substantial road travel from Side. Cappadocia is better understood as a two- or three-day trip than a nearby attraction. Compare time on the road, included meals and overnight arrangements; a balloon flight depends on weather and operating permission.

Where to stay and when to come
Choose the old town for atmosphere and walking access, or compare apartments and larger resorts along the coast. To the west are Kumköy, Evrenseki, Çolaklı and Gündoğdu, with Ilıca inland near Kumköy. To the east are Sorgun, Titreyengöl, Kızılağaç, Kızılot and Çenger. Check the exact hotel address, actual beach walk and excursion pickup area rather than relying on the word “Side”.
Summer is hot and busy; spring and autumn often suit sightseeing. Winter can bring rain and reduced seasonal services. Opening hours, transport, sea conditions and entertainment schedules change, so leave flexibility in the plan. For each excursion, confirm the pickup point, guide language, inclusions and suitability before booking.
