Blue Cruises in Turkey: Gulets, Coastal Routes and Life on Board

A Blue Cruise turns the coast into your temporary home: breakfast on deck, a passage to another bay and an evening at anchor. These multi-day gulet holidays combine the sea with coastal towns and historical sites. The route and the boat matter as much as the destination.

What life on a gulet is like

Traditional wooden gulets are closely associated with the boatbuilding heritage of Bodrum and Marmaris. They usually offer cabins, shared deck space and meals aboard, but layouts and service levels vary. Ask about the actual vessel, private bathrooms, air-conditioning hours, power supply and Wi-Fi. Engine and generator noise can be part of life on board; a sailing-style yacht does not necessarily spend the whole trip under sail.

On a crewed cruise, the captain and crew handle the vessel, so guests do not need sailing experience. The day may include meals prepared aboard, reading on deck, swimming and a shore visit. The captain adjusts passages and anchorages to sea conditions; swimming stops and a different bay every night are not guaranteed.

Private yacht or cabin charter?

A private charter reserves the boat for your group. A cabin charter gives you a cabin on a shared vessel, usually following a set programme. Compare cabin privacy, group arrangements, meals and extras rather than assuming that every private charter is all-inclusive. The following pages describe the published 2026 options; confirm availability and terms for your dates.

Routes along the Turkish coast

Fethiye and Göcek

The bays and islands around Göcek suit a route with shorter passages between nearby anchorages. Fethiye also connects with longer Marmaris routes, the historical coast around Kekova and one-way Olympos itineraries. Check the final disembarkation port and any onward road transfer: a route name is not a promise that the boat docks beside every named destination.

Marmaris and the route towards Fethiye

Marmaris combines a busy harbour with access to wooded bays. Routes towards Fethiye may include places such as Ekincik, depending on the programme. A one-way journey and a return circuit require different arrival and departure arrangements.

Bodrum, Gökova and Hisarönü

Bodrum is closely tied to the Blue Voyage tradition and writers such as Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı, the Fisherman of Halicarnassus. Gökova routes may include English Harbour and Sedir, also known as Cleopatra Island. The story of sand brought for Cleopatra is a legend; the island’s distinctive sand has a geological origin and is protected. Karacasöğüt offers a different endpoint, while the Hisarönü Gulf has its own bays and route choices.

Kemer, Antalya and Kekova

From Kemer, the coast leads towards Lycian heritage and Kekova. At the Sunken City, view the coastal and underwater remains from the boat; use only the permitted swimming stops selected by the crew, away from the protected ruins. Simena and other shore visits depend on the itinerary and access conditions.

Rhodes and Greek-island routes

Rhodes–Turkey and North Dodecanese itineraries cross an international border. Confirm the actual ports, passport and visa requirements for your nationality, and any port charges before booking. Formalities and availability are part of the journey, even when the two coasts look close from the deck.

When to go and what to confirm

May to October is a common operating season, with June and September worth considering outside peak summer heat. Check the sailing dates and forecast. Sheltered bays can still be affected by wind and swell, and open-water passages may feel different from an evening at anchor.

Compare the number of nights and the exact boarding and disembarkation times. Published four-day and week-long options are not interchangeable. Confirm accommodation, crew, meals, drinks, fuel, port fees, admission charges, transfers and cancellation conditions in the specific offer. Several linked cruises are available on request rather than as instantly bookable departures.

Discuss children, non-swimmers, seasickness and mobility needs with the operator before paying. Ask about age limits, suitable lifejackets, supervision and safe boarding. Follow the captain’s instructions and keep waste out of the sea. Private charter offers flexibility, not an exemption from safety or conservation rules.

Pack swimwear, sun protection, a hat, light clothes and a warmer layer for evenings. Bring suitable shoes for shore walks and follow the boat’s deck-footwear rules. Ask about towels, drinking water and dietary needs. Mobile reception and onboard internet can be limited in remote bays.

Considering a day trip instead?

A daytime boat excursion does not include the overnight experience of a Blue Cruise. These guides compare shorter outings.
