Full Description

Brown Fish Owl Night Observation near Manavgat

A quiet night in search of the elusive fish owl

This tour is for birdwatchers coming to southern Turkey to see Brown Fish Owl. We take you to suitable mountain stream and canyon habitat near Manavgat and use our local field knowledge to search for the owl.

Our aim is to help you see the bird in the wild. We make a serious effort on each outing, although a sighting can never be guaranteed.

How We Search

Pick-up from Side-area hotels normally begins around 19:00. We travel approximately 100 km to the observation area and usually start searching around 21:00.

The search is on foot along generally easy-to-walk, mostly level paths. Sometimes the owl is found within the first few minutes; on other nights, the search may involve 3–4 km of walking. There is no fixed walking distance, and the guide adjusts the route and pace to the conditions.

Local Field Experience

Vigo Tours has organised permitted Brown Fish Owl observations in this area since 2011.

We know that seeing the owl is the purpose of your visit. Our role is to use that field experience to look for it carefully and persistently, not to promise a sighting.

Permits and Observation Rules

The site is in a protected wildlife area. Official permissions are arranged for each group in advance.

Silence is essential. Only the guide may use a light when needed; guests cannot use personal torches or camera flash.

If the owl is seen at the first nesting area, we do not continue to other nest sites.

Participation

The tour requires at least two people and is intended for dedicated birdwatchers able to walk at night and follow the observation rules.

Children and non-birdwatching companions cannot join. Side-area hotel transfers are available for up to four guests in the guide's vehicle.

Respect for wildlife guides every outing. We keep disturbance to a minimum, avoid unnecessary visits to nesting areas and never promise photographs. Please come prepared for a quiet, patient search in natural terrain after dark. The exact return time depends on the conditions and is confirmed before departure.

Before Booking

Please reserve in advance so we can submit participant details for permits.

Photography without flash is allowed. Weather, movement and the bird's natural behaviour affect each search.

We will do our best to find Brown Fish Owl, but sightings and photographs cannot be guaranteed.
