Sea kayaking along the sunken city Kekova

If the weather conditions at the sea are not suitable, the tour may be postponed to a day later.

For a wonderful sea kayak tour through the sunken city of Kekova, we first go by land from Kaş center to Üçağız (approximately 40 minutes). Before getting on our canoes in Üçağız, we get the necessary information from the guide, and then we paddle towards Tersane Bay. Those who wish can swim in the ancient shipyard bay. Then we paddle around the sunken city in our canoes. In the meantime, let's also mention that sea kayaking is the only activity that will allow you to see the sunken city very closely. Due to the ancient ruins, it is forbidden for boats to approach the ancient island and to swim around the ancient ruins of the island.

This fantastic kayaking excursion takes you to the sunken city of Kekova, a location that can just be reached only by sea. Kekova is a lengthy thin island that divides the ocean blue from the landmass and here you can see the enchanting sunken city. You will explore the ancient ruins below water level, as well as see the strange chambers, steps, and wall surfaces sculpted straight into the rocks.

We will begin the kayaking trip from the town of Üçağız, located at the inner harbor of the Kekova. Paddling of south-westward we will arrive in ancient shipyard bay on the Kekova Island after about 1 hour by paddling. During a 30-minute break on the island you can swim, do snorkelling, trek around the ruings, or laze on the tiny beach.

We will then paddle along the sunken city side of Kekova Island and then take a short cross to Simena village to locate the lunch area. After lunch you can climb up to Simena Castle as well as enjoy the impressive panoramic sights of Kekova from the castle. After leaving  Simena behind we will be paddling back to Üçağız village.

No experience is required. Everybody can do!

When preparing for a kayaking adventure, it's important to bring along some essential items to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Sun protection is a must, so don't forget to pack a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. You'll also want to bring a change of dry clothes and shoes, as well as a towel and swimwear. For added safety, it's recommended to wear a t-shirt under your life vest to protect your skin from the sun and the friction of your arms moving against the vest. If you plan on snorkeling, be sure to bring along your own equipment or safety glasses.
